On Friday evening, October 12th, in Kypseli, residents and supporters who resist fascism and social cannibalism carried out a large antifascist–antiracist demo.
The PA’s gathering in Amerikis square was organized by antifascists from the neighbourhoods of Kypseli and Patissia—as a direct response to a concentration called by fascists and racists in the same hour—and was attended by solidaritarians from others neighbourhoods of Athens, including many immigrants.
More than 300 protesters filled Amerikis square, placed banners, shared and read antifascist texts. At the same time, anti-riot units were lined up on narrow streets in the lower side of the square, cutting off access to a hundred fascists that were concentrated on Acharnon street. Finally, the neo-Nazis walked away to Aghios Panteleimonas sector escorted by the cops.
Soon thereafter, a large antifascist march followed in Patission street and the vicinity of Amerikis square. From wherever protesters passed, shouting loud antifascist slogans and chants in solidarity with immigrants, more people joined in the demo, half of whom were immigrants. So, the number of participants reached almost 600. Here are some more photos: i, ii.
