Themistokleous 58 is an anarchist squat and housing project for people with and without papers in Exarchia, Athens (Greece).
On August 16th 2017, Themistokleous 58 was attacked in a fascist manner by mafia and recognized members of other squats, as well as people who sold tobacco and other substances near Themistokleous 58. These thugs attacked with metal bars, wooden sticks and knives, aiming for the heads of Themistokleous 58 squatters with intent to kill.
As a result, four comrades of Themistokleous 58 (three anarchists and one refugee) are left in serious condition. Three comrades are now out of the hospital with injuries including broken hands and legs, brain hemorrhaging, and stab wounds to various parts of the body including the head.
One comrade remains hospitalized with serious head injuries.
Future medical treatment is necessary for all.

The squat Themistokleous 58, also known as TH58, in Exarchia, was attacked by people wearing helmets. This was a mafia style attack which resulted in 4 injured comrades in serious condition and who are hospitalized.
Information about the attack and its causes will be announced by the TH58 Assembly.
The latest information on the near-murder incident is as follows:
1. The 4 seriously injured (in the hospital) are an immigrant and three in solidarity
2. Attackers, literally fascistically, with metal & wooden beads, as well with knives, rushed straight to the heads of those housed in TH58; Among these fascists were recognized members of squats and migrants, as well as a cigarettes dealer who sells tobacco and other substances near the TH58.

On the morning of Tuesday, July 11th 2017, Themistokleous 58 squatters, together with comrades in affinity, hung internationalist solidarity banners in Exarchia about three different cases.
From a balcony of the 58 we hung a banner in support of the Squatted Social Centre Kike Mur in Zaragoza (Spain), threatened with eviction by local authorities. The building (former prison) has been squatted for 7 years, giving space to a variety of activities and expressions of anarchist solidarity, as in the case of a banner in the context of the 2013 Black February international campaign.
Over the railing of the old Chemistry School we dropped a banner in support for those who lately clashed with the forces of repression on the streets of Hamburg against the summit of leaders of the 20 most powerful states on the planet. Now is the time to spread the word that the G20 hostages need our support.
One more banner was placed on Gini building of the Polytechnic School in solidarity with Lisa, an anarchist recently sentenced to 7.5 years in prison for a bank robbery in Aachen (Germoney) in 2014. No prisoner in the hands of Power: Let’s storm the State/Capital and domination!
On Sunday June 11 2017, international day in support with long-term anarchist prisoners, we dropped a banner from Themistokleous 58 squat in solidarity with the comrade Michael Kimble, incarcerated in Holman prison, Alabama.
Michael Kimble is a gay black anarchist serving a life sentence for taking out a white homophobic racist. Even though he has been held captive for three decades, Michael keeps resisting the everyday imprisonment by all means necessary, and also propagates violent rupture with all Power.
With this banner we send him back some of the strength we get whenever we read his incendiary texts. Hold strong, comrade: your ideas and determination reverberate to the other side of the ocean.
On Monday night, May 22nd 2017, a group of comrades attacked the Ministry of Culture in Exarchia with Molotov cocktails. We carried out this symbolic action for two reasons:
To honor the memory of Mauricio Morales, who lost his life on May 22nd 2009 in Santiago, Chile, when the bomb he was carrying to strike the jailers academy exploded prematurely.
To send strength to the anarchist Eric King, who is serving a 10-year sentence in the US for attacking a government building with Molotov cocktails in Kansas City in September 2014. We support the international call in solidarity with Eric on June 28th.
Banner drop in solidarity with the comrades who once again clashed with the patriotic mob that hit the streets of Berkeley on April 15th 2017. We don’t recognize any fatherland, we don’t kneel down before any national symbol, and we don’t dialog with any sort of fascists: we crush them!

Themistokleous 58 Squat
The purpose of this text is to clarify the position of our squat regarding some incidents that took place over the last months in Exarchia, and defend our physical and political integrity by all means necessary.
We refer to the practices of gossiping, slandering and violative behavior against the structure and the actions of the 58, practices that we consider equal as snitching, regardless of whether or not the person using them each time is expecting something in return from the persecuting authorities. The outcome is the same, in the sense that they are singling out specific individuals as a target, they attempt to strip our project of its political characteristics, and prepare the ground for the direct or indirect repression that lurks in the corner.
We also refer to physical assaults that took place the last 2 months, like bullying attempts at our front door, a group ambush against squatters of the 58 at Dervenion street (Exarchia), and even threats and attacks against us with the use of sharp/lethal objects (like a knife and an awl) only a few meters away from the 58.
Lastly, we refer to vulgar libels and miserable (tabloidlike) gatherings that some organize behind our back to jeopardize the political autonomy of the 58, attempting in vain to interfere in our internal procedures, to speak in the name of our project and to sell protection to those of us who have no papers.
For example, a slandering and completely distorting six-page text that resembles an indictment is signed by an initiative of individuals from Zaimi 11 squat, the Ditto group and the rest of the crew who set and assist ambushes in Dervenion street. This text, that is being distributed behind our back since February 20th 2017 and has been emailed to unknown to us recipients, individually lists participants in anarchist projects, with a declared objective being the following: “[…] Our target is to deprive those individuals of any space for exercising their dominant and sectarian practices, as well as to beat them up. Our tactical choice is to call comrades who co-exist also with them, update them about our intentions and promote the exclusion of these particular 3 individuals both from Themistokleous 58 Squat and procedures in general. […]”
We also quote an excerpt from a text of another groupuscule from Zaimi 11 squat that refer to us without mentioning us directly, spread lies – this time publicly – and confirm their synergy in secret procedures towards undermining the 58: “[…] We have consumed a lot of time and energy to sort things out with closed/internal procedures that, as it turned out, had no prospect […]”. The supposed ‘open procedure’ – naturally, without any prior arrangement with us – which they are now calling as self-proclaimed referees, promising to reveal titillating details, indicates what they are made of and proves once more what big cowards they are.
Apparently, Themistokleous 58 Squat and all that we stand for with our discourse and activity do not only cause pain to the State/Capital and the fascists, but also to parasitical elements who in their attempt to build themselves an identity do not hesitate to undermine all of us and try to infiltrate the project.
In the face of all these threats we choose to counterattack and defend all that we build with day-to-day effort: reciprocal solidarity between people from all corners of the world, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, origin, language, color, and religious or irreligious background, the equal participation of everyone in all activities of the squat and our very co-existence through anarchist practices and a self-organized manner.
Those that have decided to deploy the abovementioned tactics against the 58 are to be considered nothing but enemies, regardless of the mask they are wearing according to their aspirations. We publicly inform them that we are not going to tolerate any territorial expeditions against the 58, nor their overt bigotry and covert racism, nor any attempts to isolate members of the squat and spread fear to our multiracial community. We also tell others who have already rushed to their defense, uncritically adopting their victimist claims, to stay out of it.
The 58 is not only housing our common needs for sleep and feeding, it also houses our common needs to factually overcome the divisions imposed by the world of visible and invisible borders and to clash head on with the existent system, its defensors and its false critics.
When they touch one of us, they touch all of us. No official or informal repressor will break the unity among us and our diversity, and those who will attempt to sell us protection will fail big time. If some wonder how all of this will end, the answer is simple: when the gossiping, slandering and targeting will end, and when it becomes fully understood that no one can enjoy political asylum so long as they practice violations against anarchist structures and actions.
Our struggle is not about undermining squats, projects or persons that fight for freedom, and this is something we have proven by refusing to enter into a vicious circle of petty rivalries even when some of our choices received harsh critics. But when some unleash tangible threats against us, we are not going to play the good fellas.

On Saturday night, January 28th 2017, we struck the Ministry of Culture in Exarchia with Molotov cocktails. It was a small symbolic attack to remind all fascists and militarists everywhere that we don’t give a shit about national ideals. We spit on your national emblems, your uniforms, your borders and the graves you make for your slaughters.
On January 5th 2017, worms of the antiterrorist unit arrested the anarchist fighters and Revolutionary Struggle members Pola Roupa and Konstantina Athanasopoulou. That same day, the six year old son of Pola Roupa and Nikos Maziotis was captured and placed in a psychiatric ward. In response to attempts to cut the child off from his revolutionary parents, the three members of Revolutionary Struggle Roupa, Maziotis and Athanasopoulou undertook a hunger and thirst strike, forcing the prosecutorial authorities to hand over the boy to his grandmother, pending a decision on the final custody.
On Sunday January 22nd 2017, we dropped a banner from the squat that reads “Long Live Revolutionary Struggle” in Farsi, English and Greek. With this small internationalist gesture, we send strength to the unrepentant members of Revolutionary Struggle, and we declare that we stand with those who arm themselves to strike blows against persons and structures that make up the State/Capital and domination.
From Athens to Tehran, all statist snitches need killing.
On Saturday evening, January 14th 2017, some fifty people participated in the demonstration on the streets of Exarhia called by the anarchist squat Themistokleous 58 on the occasion of completion of one year of the project. The demonstration’s banner read “Resistance, Revolt, Freedom” in English and Farsi, and another banner was dropped from the squat in memory of Shahzad Luqman, murdered by Nazis in Ano Petralona in January 2013: “We do not forget Shahzad Luqman – Bash the fash.” During the action, we handed out leaflets in Greek and English, threw flyers, and shouted many slogans in Farsi, Arabic, English, French and Greek.
We thank all those who attended the demonstration in Exarchia. We also send solidarity greetings to individuals, groups and communities inside and outside walls and borders that continue to fight by all available means against Power. We remind that on Saturday evening, January 21st, we’re having a solidarity party at the 58 to support our project financially. Proceeds will cover operational needs of the squat and future actions.
On January 10th 2017, Themistokleous 58 Squat in Exarchia completed one year of activity. During this year our squat took a series of initiatives towards intensifying social war, and participated in numerous actions in support of projects and individuals targeted by repression of all authority.
We have put forward internationalist anarchic solidarity between rebels, believing that it can only be a reciprocal relationship aimed at building up affinity and complicity against the State, Capital and domination, and we continue to do so by factually tearing down phony divisions based on origin, language, gender, sexual orientation and religious or irreligious background of anyone in any way associated with our project.
We have stood up against the diffuse patriotism and racism (both overt and covert), and refused to discriminate against those who migrate on the basis of the status attributed to them by the authorities (refugees vs. non-refugees). We have sought to interlace the struggle against the control and repression of migration with a comprehensive, practical critique against the complex of domination, which is fragmenting and isolating any liberatory attempts to weaken and suppress them more easily.
We have shielded the anti-institutional character of our project by all means necessary, keeping the squat and its activities free from the presence and influence of NGOs, media and any intermediary. We have defended our political autonomy without altering the fundamental characteristics of our combative community. At the same time, we chose to meet with others on paths of multiracial clashes, working together whenever and wherever we considered that the respective political and organizational framework corresponded with our goals.
Themistokleous 58 Squat is both an anarchic political project and a housing space for people with or without papers. It is a subversive laboratory of theory and praxis, but also a place where individuals live and struggle together on the basis of self-organization, equal participation, horizontality, mutual aid and direct action. After one year of operation of the project, the experiences gained (both positive and negative) during the experiment of the 58 are a legacy of struggle valuable to us for the battles to come.

On the 6th of december, again a massive confrontation between anarchists and the police took place in the Athens district of Exarchia. Today, the area around the central square, the „platia“, is a no-go-area for state-servants in uniform. We want to present and discuss some waypoints of this developement. How do people handle that vacuum of power?
The situation in Exarchia can for sure be compared with the situation in Rigaer Straße, to realize the things in common and the differences. Until now, unfortunately mostly our enemies are talking about the lawless area Rigaer Straße. Our task is to create that space to come from the defensive single-issue-conflicts towards an open attack in the context of an international anarchist offensive.

In the early hours of December 2nd 2016, on the corner of Akadimias and Themistokleous St. a bulldozer at the service of DEI electricity company couldn’t take it anymore and decided to give an end to its automatized routine. Before its self-immolation the poor machine reportedly said:

Strength to the anarchist Natalia Collado, imprisoned in Chile because she liberated a Transantiago bus with fire!”
From the struggle at Rigaer Strasse (Berlin) to the mobilizations against the G20 (Hamburg)
This summer Berlin was the center of a showdown between the police and the remaining parts of what once was a squatting movement. The reason behind was the attempted eviction of the squatted parts of the housing project Rigaer94. Rigaer94 is located in the northern part of Friedrichshain, which has a long history of struggle against state influence. The three weeks of siege of the 94 immediately became a crystallization point for a joint counterattack by anarchists that culminated in the call for a Black July, expressing the ideas of the polymorphous anarchist struggle in action. Strengthened by the battle which led to a small victory by successfully defending the Rigaer94 against the eviction, the offensive carries on in the upcoming mobilization against the G20 summit in Hamburg in July 2017. There are already international calls for decentralized actions in order to create a dynamic that invites all the rebellious fighters that are able and willing to attack to Hamburg.

In the afternoon of November 24th 2016, we dropped a banner in Exarchia Square against the Dakota Access Pipeline, currently under construction in the US. This oil pipeline runs a distance of nearly 1,172 miles, from North Dakota to Illinois, and its cost is estimated to be around 3.7 billion dollars. In its destructive path, this mega-project is causing irreversible damage to territories, rivers and surrounding communities.
Among the affected areas is also Standing Rock reservation in North Dakota, where residents alongside people in solidarity resist the police, forces of the US army, and security guards of the groups assigned to construct the pipeline (Energy Transfer Partners being the main contractor). Repression has been so harsh over the last days, that among the hundreds who were injured there’s also an activist whose hand was amputated because of a concussion grenade fired by cops.
At the same time, there have been many actions of resistance in various cities across the US and beyond, with rail-track and train blockades, direct actions and symbolic gestures of solidarity.
We send strength to anarchist comrades and all others who fight in an anti-institutional, anti-hierarchical manner and without mediators against the construction of the pipeline, showing what it really is: one among the tentacles of domination draining the Earth.
Our opposition to this and any other mega-project of the techno-industrial civilization stems from the conviction that the Earth belongs to no one; from our need to defend by all means necessary everything that has remained untamed and wild in this artificialized world. Beyond any rhetoric of “ancestral” or “sacred” lands, we support the particular struggle until the liberation of the entire planet.
AGAINST THE OIL PIPELINE IN DAKOTA
ANATIONAL STRUGGLE AGAINST STATES, CAPITAL AND DOMINATION

On May 18th 2016 in Paris, in the context of combative protests against the new labor law, a patrol car of the French police was smashed and burned down. A week later, on May 26th, Kara Wild, an anarchist trans woman from the US who participated in the mobilizations, was arrested at a separate demonstration near La Place de la Nation. The prosecuting authorities accused her of participating in the smashing of the police car; since then, she is imprisoned in France and has been denied bond because she is considered a flight risk.
In the morning of November 25th 2016, we hung a banner at the Athens Polytechnic, on Stournari St., as a token of solidarity with Kara. We don’t care if she committed the “offense” she is accused of. For us, smashing and burning cop vehicles, in France and everywhere, is not only right but of utmost necessity.
Below is a statement that longterm anarchist prisoner Sean Swain sent for the presentation by comrades from Bloomington ABC on November 23rd 2016 at Gini building of the Athens Polytechnic School in Exarchia, Athens. The comrade’s words were read out loud in English and Greek, and printouts of his text were shared during the discussion against prison society, organized by Themistokleous 58 Squat and Contra Info.
Greece and the Dignity of Rebellion
Before I give you the wrong impression that I’m placing undeserved blame on you, I think I should probably begin by revealing that I am a big fan of Greek anarchists. It seems like every single photographic image I see of rebels with bandanas covering their faces or donning black ski masks, every snapshot of police cars tipped onto their tops and blazing away, all come from Greece. In fact, I am such a fan that I consider it the biggest achievement of my life that I wrote a statement in support of Black December posted on 8 December last year, and 5 days later Greek rebels burned down a military building and quoted me. That is a benchmark in my life. I brag about it. I’m impossible to be around. I tell everyone who will listen to me that I wrote a statement and Greek anarchists quoted me after torching a military building.
It makes me want to write a thousand more statements in hopes that you will burn a thousand more buildings.
So, I say all that as context so what I say next won’t hurt your feelings…
Greece brought about swivilization. It all started in Greece. You Greeks refined this hierarchy program, developed democracy as its most appealing form, fashioned great works of art to decorate it—mostly depicting naked people, which really attracted the attention of the rest of the world—and you exported the program on great fleets of sailing vessels.
Fastforward, we now have a global slavery system where we all drag stones up the side of some rich asshole’s pyramid and the vast majority of us do not have the imagination to think that there could be anything better than democracy. We live in a world run by banksters and industrial sociopaths engaged in the mass destruction of everything living, including us.
So, it seems more than appropriate to me that, in the birthplace of swivilization, we now witness its assassination. In Greece, out of all the geographic spaces of the world, we now find the most determined, the most energized, the most radical resistance to swivilization, to this program that distorts and murders us in installments.
It started in Greece. It’s ending in Greece.
Please don’t think I say this in an effort to flatter you. I’m terrible at flattery. I’m great at talking myself into trouble. So, this isn’t flattery, but, I think, a fairly objective observation: The experiments in resistance that you have pushed forward, the strategies and tactics, the theories you have explored, all of this has become communal property for the rest of the world. Even now, as we just begin to find our own way, stumbling along, anarchists in the United States and other places in the world, divided as it is into artificial nation-states, we look to you. We see what you have done.
Not to make excuses for us in the United States, but part of our inaction, I think, is as a consequence of seeing what you have accomplished, how far you have pushed, and we think, whether correctly or otherwise, that such resistance isn’t possible here. We are paralyzed, I think, by a sense that we cannot do what you have done, that somehow the situation or the “conditions” in the United States are different, that the surveillance is too pervasive, the potential sanctions too overwhelming, the social climate too pacified. And so, we sit in front of our computers and log on to watch the footage of Greeks wild-eyed and screaming, chasing the bewildered pigs who run for their lives, the hierarch order trembling at the knees, and we dream.
You must be wondering, Where are the Americans?
We’re coming. I’m certain that we are.
Just this month, millions of Americans voted against the established order that has failed them for their lifetimes. By the millions, they cast ballots, ostensibly for the candidate who will “change” everything, who will “shake things up,” because that candidate seemed to be talking for them, expressing their frustrations.
Giving them the benefit of the doubt that most of them are stupid rather than evil, they unknowingly voted in the most virulent fascist sociopath since Hitler and Mussolini, a fascist of the highest order whose lip service to the forgotten majority will yield to policies of war-mongering and corporate give-aways and “austerity” for the people. Those voters will soon have “buyer’s remorse,” when the fascist in whom they pinned their hopes betrays them thoroughly.
And where will the Americans turn? Will they turn back to the corporate parties that they rejected by the tens of millions, the same parties with the same failed ideas? Will they find a new hero with promises of glory and greatness, speaking much like the hero who drove the knife into their back?
No. They will turn to the example set elsewhere, the example of rejecting the imposed order, the images and ideas exported not on fleets of sea vessels but transmitted electronically via satellite, demonstrating the true dignity of rebellion.
The Americans are coming.
In just a matter of months, this docile and pacified population will be transformed by rage and fury, and will find voice in flames and blood. They will follow into a battle against this common enemy, going where many of you have already gone, and you will see faces covered in bandanas, concealed under ski masks, and you will see the police cars turned and burning, maybe even see the pillars of smoke rising as you look to the western horizon.
The Americans are coming. And when we do, we will be walking in the footprints left by Greek rebels who went before us.
On that day, the day of victory over our common enemy, we will all be Greek.
And we will all be free.

Uncompromising complicity with indomitable anarchist Sean Swain, still held captive in Ohio prisons in the US
On Wednesday noon November 9th 2016, at the junction of Tositsa and Bouboulinas St. in Exarchia, a white Volkswagen with the liscense plate IZY 5183 was spotted having on display the nazi newspaper Empros on the inside of the front windshield. A group of comrades mobilized fast and smashed up the vehicle.
We send isurrectionary signals to those who fuck up the streets in the US against the democratic election of fascist Trump.
During the night of Wednesday October 19th we took part, alongside many other groups and individualities, in the street clashes around the Polytechnic in Exarchia, that lasted for several hours with constant attacks with molotovs, stones and fireworks against antiriot police squads.
Street clashes, in any of their forms (exiting university premises through incendiary means, rioting in demonstrations, etc.), are part of the multiform anarchic attack against Power and the imposed normality. Because of their characteristics, this is one of the most effective ways to demonstrate the conflict between anarchy and the world of Power. This is why we support the diffusion of this and other forms of struggle that aim to destabilize and spread chaos until the collapse of the existent.
But we don’t want to limit ourselves in a routine of anticop hate; along with the attacks against the cops, we promote the practice of attack against the structures and symbols of domination, from the most obvious like banks and ministries, to those urban elements that serve the normal function of the metropolis: road signs, traffic lights, cameras, bus stops… as well the representations, symbols and idols of Power in the form of icons, monuments, statues…
At the same time, barricades and attacks on public transportation (buses, trolleybuses, metro… without passengers inside) are forms of interruption of the normal flow of people and commodities, and sabotage against the state and private companies that manage this flow.
All those symbols and structures represent or serve a function of the authoritarian civilization we want to destroy, so they’ll always be a target for us.
We don’t see anarchic violence as a sacrifice or as a revolutionary obligation; instead, we demystify it, we turn it into a banality, we use it in a ludic way, making it obtainable for everybody, without professionalisms or restrictions.
