The fourth day (27/6) of eviction of the squatted school in Ohlauer Street in Berlin-Kreuzberg will soon be over. At dawn, the day began with the first detention of a protester who expressed his anger about the ongoing besiege with harsh words; the cops accused him of throwing a bottle. The following hours were also marked by sporadic detentions close to the barriers. In particular, the USK from Bamberg stood out, as they pulled a protester by his ears into a cop bus and broke his arm.
The press meeting which was called by the refugees on the roof was prohibited by the district’s spokesman Langenbach, same like the day before. After some delay, it was made in front of the school. The squatters clearly refused the so called “offer” made by the Senate; the signs that it would be a trap, which would result in the eviction of the roof, were too obvious.
Now it seems that the responsibility for the fate of the school, and thus not least for the lives of some refugees, is in the hands of the cops. Both the district as well as the Senate continue to pass the responsibility to and from one another.
About 10pm a spontaneous demo with ca. 60 people started at Boxhagener Square in the district of Friedrichshain, and very soon a patrol car arrived, which was sent back home in a militant way. After that the spontaneous demo dissolved.
At the cops’ barriers, the spirit is oftentimes good but is also affected by the sobering realization that a few hundred people and a couple of actionist interventions (see: https://linksunten.indymedia.org/node/117616) are not enough to raise the pressure against the city and the cops so high as to add a well-deserved force to the demands of the refugees. It seems like the major part of the leftists obviously changed their focus towards the Fusion Festival…
Soon the 96th hour of a state of siege begins, that appears to be a state of war in SO36 [the old name/former zip code of this district; so36 also connotes a subversive Kreuzberg].
We hope that the 5th day and the following nights will be less easy for the Senate, the cops and the district authorities.
A demo was called for 28/6 at 4pm in Hermannplatz, Berlin.

During the 6th day (29/6) of the eviction and besiege, the refugees inside and on the roof of the squatted Gerhart-Hauptmann-School are still insisting on their demands, while outside of the school the number of people in solidarity is finally growing. Residents and other people in solidarity donate food, blankets and whatever is needed and called for. People are gathering in front of the barriers of the cops in order to support the struggle of the refugees and last but not least to prevent a violent eviction. Now and then there are reports of arrested people -an exact number has not been published yet.
The solidarity demonstration ‘You can’t evict a movement’ which took place on Saturday 28/6 in Berlin, was surprisingly well visited, reaching a number of 5,000 protesters after only a little more than one day of mobilizations. This is rarely the case in Berlin. Protesters of all ages were present -among them many locals and families.
The Senate of Berlin as well as the municipal government of Kreuzberg continue their game of passing the responsibility to one another and blaming each other, because none of them wants to be responsible for the outcome of a final eviction, especially after the refugees announced that they will jump from the roof in case of a violent evacuation. The situation is tense. Meanwhile the solidarity actions are diverse -you may find below a brief and incomplete list of actions which have been reported until now (excluding those which were already published here earlier).
Solidarity actions:
Berlin – On Sunday 29/6, some criminal queers and accomplices hung a banner in Neukölln reading “CRIMINAL QUEERS SUPPORT OHLAUER REBELS”. Read their text in English here: https://linksunten.indymedia.org/de/node/117747
Athens – On Sunday morning 29/6, a solidarity banner was hung in Exarchia square which reads: ‘Solidarity with the regugees and those who fight together with them in the occupied school in Ohlauer Straße in Berlin’ https://linksunten.indymedia.org/en/node/117690
Berlin – In the morning hours of Saturday 28/6, a vehicle of the security service from the company Dussmann was set ablaze in the district of Moabit https://linksunten.indymedia.org/de/node/117654
Mainz – On Friday 27/6, almost 40 people marched in a spontaneous solidarity demo through the center of the city until they got attacked and cordoned by police forces. One person in solidarity who attempted to join the cordoned protesters got attacked, pepper-sprayed and later even temporarely detained by the cops; a male protester with a little child on his shoulders got attacked and his arm was injured; a female protester was brutally taken into a cop’s van and body checked. https://linksunten.indymedia.org/de/node/117651
Berlin – On Thursday 26/6, at around 10pm a spontaneous demo of 60 people started in the district of Neukölln. Many protesters had their faces covered, the offices of the so called ‘Quatiersmanagement’ (a program to support the process of gentrification and pacify certain areas of a district, which is run by the municipality with the participation of citizens) in the Reuter neighbourhood got their windows smashed, many barricades got erected. The demo dissolved after cops started to arrive. Nobody got arrested.
Kiel – On Thursday 26/6, some activists passed with a banner which read ‘Freedom, not Frontex’ through the ‘Kieler Woche’, sending solidarity greetings to all refugee protesters in Brussels, Berlin and worldwide. https://linksunten.indymedia.org/de/node/117554
Vienna – During the night from 24 to 25 June, a group of anarchists put a solidarity banner in a community garden close to the Donau passage. https://linksunten.indymedia.org/de/node/117486
Upcoming actions:
Monday, 30 June at 6:30pm – Ohlauer Street / Reichenberger Street -antiracist badminton match against repression and asylum practices
Tuesday, 1 July at 6pm – Moritzplatz -demonstration and ultimatum: ‘No martial law in Kreuzberg – Refugees Welcome’
Solidarity and strength to the refugees in struggle
