December 5th was the last day of trial against the four remanded anarchists Babis Tsilianidis, Sokratis Tzifkas, Dimitris Dimtsiadis and Dimitris Fessas for the case of arrests in the Athens districts of Tavros and Vyronas in January 2011.
The charges of participation in an anonymous terrorist organization and disposal of firearms to terrorist groups were dropped as such, and the comrades were convicted for ‘conspiracy’ and ‘unauthorized possession of firearms’ instead.
The court accepted the prosecutor’s proposal, without recognizing any extenuating circumstances, and sentenced the four anarchists to 4 years’ imprisonment, while their appeal shall have a suspensive effect. They received a fine of €3,000 each for illegal weapons possession. Also, the court imposed restrictive terms on all comrades (they’ll have to sign in a local police station twice every month even when they’ll be out on the streets).
On the one hand, comrades Sokratis Tzifkas, Dimitris Dimtsiadis and Dimitris Fessas are expected to file an appeal motion soon, in order to be granted release from prison.
On the other hand, comrade Babis Tsilianidis will stay in remand in Koridallos prisons awaiting trial, because he is still accused of an armed robbery which took place at the accounting department of the AHEPA hospital in Thessaloniki in July 2010. After three consecutive postponements, his trial is scheduled to take place on January 22nd, 2013 by 9am at Thessaloniki courts.
