[Russia] Rupression.com campaign statement about the accused in the Network Case

“Your torture won’t kill our ideas.” Anarchists and antifascists march in Petersburg on May Day 2018

Rupression.com campaign statement about the accused

In February 2018, a campaign was launched in Russia to support those accused in the Network case. Among the main goals of the campaign were fundraising for legal costs, organizing humanitarian support for the arrested and offering support to their relatives. The resources gathered have so far been distributed according to the financial circumstances of the respective families and the needs of the arrested. Further financial support is being distributed according to the choices made by those the arrested throughout the investigation.

Currently two of the accused, Igor Shishkin, and Yegor Zorin, are firmly siding with the investigation.

Igor Shishkin has not filed a torture complaint, although traces of torture were reported on his body by the independent Public Oversight Committee (ONK). He has signed agreement prior to being present in
court, which means that he has fully admitted his guilt. He is actively cooperating in the investigation of the criminal case, and also giving testimony against other suspects. If the case by the prosecution is substantiated with the testimony given by Shishkin, his sentence will be reduced (as defined in the chapter 5 of the statute 317.7 of Russian Codex of Criminal Prosecution, UPK RF). Igor is the only accused to have been visited by official Russian Ombudsman for human rights Tatyana Moskalkova, but he did not report any torture during the visit. Since then he has sided with the prosecution during a cross-interrogation with another defendant. This position is detrimental to co-defendants, and results in additional pressure for everyone struggling for themselves and for justice.

Yegor Zorin, in the autumn of 2017, after being tortured, admitted his guilt and has cooperated with the investigation ever since. He never filed a torture complaint.

In the framework of the support campaign, we do not consider it possible to support defendants cooperating with the investigation, against the interests of the other co-defendants. Thus, financial support for these defendants is not provided from the common fund. In case you want to support Shishkin, you may do so via his relatives (link).

All the defendants in the case, Shishkin and Zorin included, have been tortured and manipulated by the authorities. We are ready to provide support for Shishkin and Zorin, when they choose to take part in a
collective strategy of defense, instead of an individual one.

[Greece] Solidarity for injured comrades of Themistokleous 58 squat

Themistokleous 58 is an anarchist squat and housing project for people with and without papers in Exarchia, Athens (Greece).

On August 16th 2017, Themistokleous 58 was attacked in a fascist manner by mafia and recognized members of other squats, as well as people who sold tobacco and other substances near Themistokleous 58. These thugs attacked with metal bars, wooden sticks and knives, aiming for the heads of Themistokleous 58 squatters with intent to kill.

As a result, four comrades of Themistokleous 58 (three anarchists and one refugee) are left in serious condition. Three comrades are now out of the hospital with injuries including broken hands and legs, brain hemorrhaging, and stab wounds to various parts of the body including the head.

One comrade remains hospitalized with serious head injuries.

Future medical treatment is necessary for all.

Themistokleous 58 squat is always in need of financial support, but now more than ever during this troubling time. Some injured comrades will have lingering medical conditions that Themistokleous 58 does not have the means to cope with alone.

Let’s show solidarity for the comrades of Themistokleous 58, who have always shown solidarity for us!

Athens: Reportback from demonstration in Exarchia (January 14th)

(flyer from the demo:) “Alerta antipatriota / We do not forget Shahzad Luqman / The only language I’ve learned well: to fight with rage for freedom / Neither natives nor foreigners; fatherlandless & rebels”

On Saturday evening, January 14th 2017, some fifty people participated in the demonstration on the streets of Exarhia called by the anarchist squat Themistokleous 58 on the occasion of completion of one year of the project. The demonstration’s banner read “Resistance, Revolt, Freedom” in English and Farsi, and another banner was dropped from the squat in memory of Shahzad Luqman, murdered by Nazis in Ano Petralona in January 2013: “We do not forget Shahzad Luqman – Bash the fash.” During the action, we handed out leaflets in Greek and English, threw flyers, and shouted many slogans in Farsi, Arabic, English, French and Greek.

We thank all those who attended the demonstration in Exarchia. We also send solidarity greetings to individuals, groups and communities inside and outside walls and borders that continue to fight by all available means against Power. We remind that on Saturday evening, January 21st, we’re having a solidarity party at the 58 to support our project financially. Proceeds will cover operational needs of the squat and future actions.

Exarchia: One Year Themistokleous 58 Squat

ONE YEAR THEMISTOKLEOUS 58 SQUAT

On January 10th 2017, Themistokleous 58 Squat in Exarchia completed one year of activity. During this year our squat took a series of initiatives towards intensifying social war, and participated in numerous actions in support of projects and individuals targeted by repression of all authority.

We have put forward internationalist anarchic solidarity between rebels, believing that it can only be a reciprocal relationship aimed at building up affinity and complicity against the State, Capital and domination, and we continue to do so by factually tearing down phony divisions based on origin, language, gender, sexual orientation and religious or irreligious background of anyone in any way associated with our project.

We have stood up against the diffuse patriotism and racism (both overt and covert), and refused to discriminate against those who migrate on the basis of the status attributed to them by the authorities (refugees vs. non-refugees). We have sought to interlace the struggle against the control and repression of migration with a comprehensive, practical critique against the complex of domination, which is fragmenting and isolating any liberatory attempts to weaken and suppress them more easily.

We have shielded the anti-institutional character of our project by all means necessary, keeping the squat and its activities free from the presence and influence of NGOs, media and any intermediary. We have defended our political autonomy without altering the fundamental characteristics of our combative community. At the same time, we chose to meet with others on paths of multiracial clashes, working together whenever and wherever we considered that the respective political and organizational framework corresponded with our goals.

Themistokleous 58 Squat is both an anarchic political project and a housing space for people with or without papers. It is a subversive laboratory of theory and praxis, but also a place where individuals live and struggle together on the basis of self-organization, equal participation, horizontality, mutual aid and direct action. After one year of operation of the project, the experiences gained (both positive and negative) during the experiment of the 58 are a legacy of struggle valuable to us for the battles to come.

We invite everyone to join us on Saturday January 14th at 21:00 outside the 58 for a demonstration on the streets of Exarchia. We do not forget Shahzad Luqman, a migrant from Pakistan who was murdered by neo-Nazi scum in the Athens neighborhood of Ano Petralona in January 2013. We do not forget the thousands of migrants who were beaten, imprisoned, deported or assassinated by the world of states and their borders.

To support the project financially, join us on Saturday January 21st from 21:00 for a solidarity party at the 58; with live music performances by REZA ASKI (voice/guitar, from Iran) and SIMO (rap, from Morocco), DJ sets, food and drinks.

Warsaw: Judge posts bail for the Warsaw 3. A week to collect funds

screen-shot-2016-09-15-at-19-16-09The Warsaw 3 have been arrested in May and kept since then in a high security jail with very limited contact to the outside and are facing severe sentences under the new anti-terrorist and anti-anarchist laws. They are still awaiting trial.

Today during a court hearing concerning the filed complaint for the prolonged arrest of the 3 anarchists, a decision was made to release them on bail. A fee of 20 thousand PLN (4600 euro) of bail was set for each of them. If the money is transferred in a weeks time (7 days from today, until 21st of september), the arrested will be released and kept under police surveillance instead.

60 thousands PLN (13 800 euro) is a fortune for the families and friends of the arrested. Gathering these funds in one week time seems barely possible. If you can – show your support, either financially or by forwarding the call for collecting funds. Every euro brings us closer to getting them out.

Leaving the arrest would mean for the arrested anarchists the end of everyday tortures they suffer after more than 3 months in solitary confinement. We cannot let this chance slip out of our hands!

USA: Call for Day of Solidarity with Sacramento, Sunday July 10th

[Received July 5th / Call originally put out on PSA]

What was supposed to happen Sunday June 26th 2016 was a mega-march of white supremacists groups against what they deemed to be the anitifa threat to their “faith, family and folk”. The Traditionalist Workers Party, Golden State Skins and KKK were set to rally on the West Capitol steps in Downtown Sacramento.

They never made it onto those steps. within seconds of stepping onto the capitol they were chased away by a large crowd of anti-fascists. Over 300 anti-fascists and anti-racists had converged hours before the planned march in an attempt to shut it down. When 20 or so white supremacists armed with shields and adorned with TWP imagery attempted to take those steps they were attacked with rocks, bottles, knives, bats, fists, pepper spray and anything that those antifa could get their hands on. They were chased for blocks and when they attempted to escape in a waiting car, all of its windows were smashed out.

In the end it wasn’t only white supremacist blood that splattered the ground. Several antifa comrades had also been stabbed, received knife wounds and suffered serious injuries. Later, the leader of the TWP would call the blood pouring from the chests of our friends a “victory” for him and his bonehead brethren.

Boneheads like the TWP ad GSS are only the most obvious and explicit manifestations of white-supremacy. The police, the media and countless other institutions uphold white-supremacy in our everyday lives. On the 26th, anti-fascists fought against the police and the media as well as the more explicit racist in the streets. As more and more events occur disrupting specific groups of white supremacists we think it is important to remember that the fight against white-supremacy is not only about a specific group or political candidate. The fight against organized white supremacist groups cannot be separated from larger struggles against the ways that white supremacy, patriarchy, homophobia and transphobia structure the everyday reality of domination in which we live. We want to celebrate all those who attack these structures and extend these spaces of revolt beyond moments like Sundays rally.

This is a call for a day of solidarity with all those who put their lives and bodies on the line to confront white supremacists in the streets of Sacramento on the 26th. Solidarity means many things, and can articulate itself in many ways. Demos, attacks, letter writings, benefits for medical fee, banner drops and more are welcome on this day. Just make sure to securely take photos or write reportbacks and post them itsgoingdown.org, anarchistnews.org or your local anarchist news source.

As our comrades recover in the hospital, let’s show them that we are thinking about them and keep fighting white supremacy wherever it exists.

London Antifa Solidarity Tour – Financial support of prosecuted comrade in Kavala, Greece

[Kavala, Greece] London Antifa Solidarity Tour / Talk + Social

Saturday December 5th
7pm – 11pm
LARC
62 Fieldgate Street
London E1 1ES

We will be asking for donations at the door.

London Anti-Fascists are organising a short tour with a comrade from Kavala, Greece to raise awareness and solidarity for their struggle against fascists and state repression.

Anti-fascists in Kavala have been some of the most active in all of Greece, organising demonstrations and actions against neo-nazi groups over the past years.

We are organising this tour as one of the comrades from Kavala is facing serious charges on December 9th and is desperate need for solidarity and financial support.

ABOUT THE CASE:

On Sunday 26th January 2014, a few hours before a scheduled anti-fascist rally, neo-nazis from the “Patriotic Movement” smashed up a shop owned by one well know anti-fascist and attempted to set fire to it, endangering the lives of those inside the building. After the intervention of local residents, as well as people from the surrounding nightclubs, the worst was avoided.

Our comrade, once notified of the attack on his store, went down there to see what had happened. A few moments later some plain-clothes police officers arrived, having been notified by the local residents. At that moment our comrade is informed that before the smashing and arson of his store, a clash had taken place between a group of antifascists and a group of members of the Patriotic Movement. The “Patriotic Movement” were guarding the public space of the Municipal Park to prevent any anti-fascists from attending.

Though refusing to have anything to do with the police, our comrade for the purpose of insurance had to go to the police station. Whilst waiting for 3 hours he was informed that he was arrested for public disturbance. Apparently members of the Patriotic Movement in collusion with the police attempted to put the blame for a previous confrontation on him.

Not only were the Patriotic Movement attempting to control the streets and public spaces, they had after the incident violently attack two youths in a park and then proceeded to work with the police in making this claim against our comrade.

A few hours later the antifascist rally, organised by the Autonomous Collective of Kavala [Kavala Autonomous Hangout], Vironos 3 squat and individual antifascists, took place in Faliro Park. From the very first moment of the rally, the Park was surrounded by several riot squads (around 8 to 10) and many plain-clothes cops. As soon as the antifascists (150 to 170 people from Kavala and other towns) blocked the road in front of the park, police vans shut off the road, in order to prevent the antifascists to approach the Municipal Park, where at the same time the fascist gathering was being held. Not only neo-nazi Golden Dawn members took part in the fascist gathering, but also other neo-nazi groups, such as the National Socialist Army of Macedonia and other known and unknown fascists from Northern Greece.

After the events of that weekend, two comrades were held in custody for several days and face charges of “disturbance of public order with facial features covered”.

The trial is set for December 9th 2015.

We hope that this tour can further make links between anti-fascists in UK and anti-fascists across Greece.

[London] A song for imprisoned comrade Tasos Theofilou

via ASF LDN – Anarchists in Solidarity (original description in Greek):

“Night has fallen with no moon, it also got dark inside Yedi,*
and yet, one palikari is unable to fall asleep.

Who knows what he’s waiting for from evening till morning
at the narrow window that illuminates the cell…

The door opens, the door closes, but it’s double-locked with key.
What has he done, why was the fellow thrown into prison?”

* in reference to the notorious Yedi Kule prison in Thessaloniki, Greece

(The banner viewed at minute 2:46 reads: “We are all guilty”)

With those who put up strong resistance for all of us;
with those we will always stand in solidarity.

Tasos is currently in prison, after being sentenced on the basis of forged and nonexistent evidence. He was convicted just because he’s an anarchist. He was convicted because he didn’t lose his smile even when the court of first instance announced his sentence.

“I have committed the offence that encompasses all offences. In the class war, I chose to side with those who have been treated unjustly.” (Tasos Theofilou, February 2014)

“I am an anarchist communist. I cherish life as much as I love freedom. Let’s fight to tear down the prisons that bury thousands of living persons inside them. Let’s fight for the vision of social liberation. Let’s fight for the liberation of our class from the power of the Capital.” (Tasos Theofilou, September 2012)

Electric Litany covered the Apostolos Kaldaras song “Night has fallen with no moon (Nychtose choris feggari)” with its original lyrics (before the 1947 censorship) as a gesture of solidarity with anarchist communist Tasos Theofilou, imprisoned in Greece.

This release (recorded in London during September 2015) has the sole purpose of raising funds to support the case of Tasos Theofilou. You can purchase the track by donating an amount of your choosing through PayPal. Contact email: londanfund15 (at) gmail.com

All proceeds will go to cover the legal costs of the case, which will be tried at the appellate level.

Italy: Billy, Costa and Silvia sent to trial again

On July 17th 2015, the preliminary hearing against Silvia Guerini, Costantino ‘Costa’ Ragusa and Luca ‘Billy’ Bernasconi took place in Turin, Italy. The three have been previously arrested and jailed for several years in Switzerland, accused of having organised an act of sabotage against a nanotechnology research centre of IBM, under construction at the time. On April 15th 2010, they were stopped and arrested by Swiss police who searched their car and found explosives, as well as leaflets claiming the imminent action under the name ‘Earth Liberation Front Switzerland’.

They have now been indicted according to the article 110 of the Italian penal code, which is used to punish offenses of criminal association. Particularly they’re accused of having conspired together to plan the action in Italy, of having illegally obtained the materials needed to assemble and prepare explosive devices, and of having smuggled such devices between the Italian and Swiss border. All charges include the aggravating circumstance of the ‘purpose of terrorism’, historically used in political trials in Italy to obtain long pretrial detention, and longer prison sentence if found guilty.

The judge at the preliminary hearing accepted the thesis proposed by the deputy prosecutor Enrico Arnaldi Di Balme and found irrelevant that Billy, Costa and Silvia have already been tried and convicted in the Swiss Confederation.

The trial will commence on January 13th 2016 in Turin. Let’s use it as an occasion to relaunch the struggle against environmental destruction.

In view of the trial, the three comrades are facing a hard time and need to cover several legal expenses, so they’ve shared a call for support. Any help is much appreciated. Donations can be made to: conto corrente postale intestato a (postal current account payable to) Marta Cattaneo, IBAN: IT11A0760111100001022596116, BIC: BPPIITRRXXX. Czech Republic – Operation Fenix: Anarchists charged with ‘preparation of terrorist acts’

On April 28th 2015, the anti-extremist police unit commanded Operation Fenix across the Czech Republic, in an attempt to frighten the anarchist and antiauthoritarian scene, and collect information in a fishing expedition. The police have arrested or interrogated over thirty people so far, with the intention of investigating activities which they later labeled as ‘terrorist’. Individuals were harassed by undercover cops, others taken from one city to another for immediate interrogations, private flats and social centres were raided, and servers confiscated.

According to updates until May 26th, three individuals remain in police custody for further investigations, and a number of individuals have been interrogated for second time.

On Saturday, June 6th, comrades gathered outside Prague’s remand prisons where Operation Fenix prisoners are currently being held.

Below is an open letter from Petr S., one of the imprisoned since Op. Fenix was launched:

“Dear friends,
thank you for all your support and solidarity. It means a lot to me, especially in this situation. I have always regarded my life as a mere fraction of all life on Earth. That has not changed. Even when I was not in custody, the thought of all those whose freedom has been taken, not only behind bars, has made me feel not free myself. My journey in life has always been a journey towards equality and a truly free society for all. Your kind words assure me that I will never be alone on this journey.
With sincere gratitude and fraternal greetings,
Petr”

International solidarity with those implicated in Operation Pandora

“For those who struggle, the sense of solidarity intends to dismantle the loneliness of incarceration, waging a battle against forgetting our comrades abducted by states, bringing to light the logic of domination that seeks to condemn them to surrender.”

– anarchists of Pandora

A year after the end of the “Caso Bombas” farce, the Spanish and Chilean ministries, judges and cops are working together on a new case, this time on this side of the ocean. Mónica Caballero and Francisco Solar, both ex-suspects in the “Caso Bombas” case, are arrested in Barcelona, suspected of placing an explosive at the Basílica del Pilar in Zaragoza, planning a similar action and belonging to an alleged terrorist organisation.

On December 16th 2014, 15 houses, squats and anarchist social centres in Barcelona, Sabadell, Manresa and Madrid were raided, and eleven anarchist comrades kidnapped by the Spanish State. Four were released shortly after, the other seven on January 30th on conditional bail. The judge additionally ordered that they each pay a bail of 3,000 euros to be released. Donations are therefore urgently needed in order to pay their bail, a total of 21,000 euros.

This kidnapping of eleven comrades set off a multitude of rallies and demonstrations that same day in different cities. Thousands of people came out in solidarity with the arrested comrades, showing rage and hatred towards the State’s new repressive operation.

ASF LDN – Anarchists in Solidarity

[ABC-Moscow] Appeal to support Ilya Romanov

Dear friends! We ask you to support Ilya Romanov, Russian anarchist accused of ‘terrorism’, who has already spent a year in prison. ABC-Moscow included him in the list of anarchist political prisoners.

On 26 October 2013 46-year-old anarchist Ilya Romanov was wounded in the city of Nizhnii Novgorod. The explosion which occurred late at night severely injured his left hand and burned his face. Ilya was taken to hospital where doctors amputated his arm. Romanov explained to the police that he unwarily used a pyrotechnic device. In December 2013 Romanov was charged with Article 205 and Article 30 of the Criminal Code of Russian Federation (“attempt to commit a terrorist attack”). But there is no reason for terrorism charges because there is no corpus delicti. Article 205 implies committing acts “of frightening people and endangering their lives, causing significant property damage or other serious consequences in order to influence decision-making authorities or international organizations”. It is obvious that in this situation there could be no intimidation, no danger of death or significant property damage as a firecracker was too weak for that, and Ilya was hurt only because it exploded right in his hands. FSB investigators decided to make «the very important case» from this story to justify their existence. They planted two files with leaflets into Ilya friend’s computer. The investigators claim that Ilya was going to spread political appeals after the bomb attack on an institution but hasn’t manage to do it because of the explosion. FSB uses Ilya’s past as an important evidence of his intentions to commit a terrorist act.

The investigation will be finished in two months and we need money for linguistic examination of the planted files, inviting the specialists to the court and to pay the lawyer. We managed to collect money for one year of lawyer’s work and for two independent examinations. But now we are in serious lack of money. We need about 2300 euro and we have only 750 euro.

If you wish to make donations to the comrade through paypal, you may contact the Anarchist Black Cross of Moscow at: abc-msk(at)riseup.net

Background
Ilya got involved in anarchist movement in the late 80’s in Nizhni Novgorod, which was back then named Gorky. One of his first actions in the Soviet era was publication of an anarchist leaflet, almost all copies of which ended up in KGB archives.

This is the third time he is suspected of involvement in armed struggle. First time he was detained in Moscow in October, 1998, as a suspected member of underground armed group “New Revolutionary Alternative”. Eventually he was sentenced to compulsory treatment in mental hospital, and released in turn of year 2002.

Ilya did not enjoy freedom long: as early as in December 2002 he was detained in the Ukraine, as one of the suspected members of underground revolutionary organization. Eventually, he spent 10 years in prison. Charges against him included illegal trade of small arms and bombing of SBU (former KGB) office in the Ukraine. All the arrested were subject to extreme tortures. Sergey Berdyugin, 20, died from torture on the 1st of November, 2003. Ilya declined all charges and claimed he was tortured both mentally and physically during pre-trial detention. He went on hunger strikes and cut his veins and neck with a razor blade in the courtroom to protest against inhumane treatment. He was released in December of 2012.
