According to Informa-azione, in the morning of July 4th, 2012, Silvia was released in Chiasso, at the border with Italy. Together with relatives, she headed back home. According to Silvia Billy Costa Liberi, she stepped out of prison without restrictions, after a reduction to 1/3 of her sentence was accepted.
Short background
On April 15th, 2010, Costantino “Costa” Ragusa, Silvia Guerini and Luca “Billy” Bernasconi were stopped by a police blockade and arrested near Zurich. According to initial Press reports, while the car (rented in Italy) was being searched, the Swiss cops declared to have found explosives, a detonator and a statement in reference to the IBM laboratories, which do research on nanotechnology. Costa, Silvia (both from Italy) and Billy (from Switzerland) are fellow anarchists who have been active in fighting for radical ecology, animal liberation, against health hazards such as nuclear technology, and supporting and standing in solidarity with revolutionary prisoners. They have never concealed their hostility against those who are everyday exploiting, poisoning and terrorizing by means of Power—which are in the hands of a few people—like the new technologies (nanotechnology, biotechnology, cybernetics, etc.). Since their arrest, Silvia, Billy and Costa were remanded in custody in Swiss prisons, maintaining a combative stance in the cells of democracy, conducting hunger strikes, and so forth. In July 2011, during their trial week in Bellinzona, Switzerland, the comrades were held in solitary confinement in Lugano prisons with additional restrictions, until they received prison sentences. Billy was sentenced to 3 years and 6 months, Costa to 3 years and 8 months, and Silvia to 3 years and 4 months, charged with preparatory acts of arson and illegal transport and concealment of explosive materials.
