Actions against the municipal and regional elections & electoral abstention in Greece

Yesterday, Sunday, November 7th, the municipal and regional elections took place. Various actions against them occurred in different cities of Greece.

In the city of Serres, on the 4th of November there was a double event in the university campus and the central spot of the city organized by the “self managed haunt of TEI (Technical Professional Institution)”. A sound system intervention, flyers and banners were used.

In the city of Kozani, on the 4th of November, thousand of flyers were thrown at the streets of the city and the day after a sound system intervention was set up by comrades in the central square, calling the people to reject the electoral system. In the city of Thessaloniki, at Eptalofos square comrades that were distributing pamphlets against the elections during their sound system intervention clashed with members of the Stalinist KKE party. The Stalinists arrived at the square demanding from the anarchists to leave in order to perform their pre-electoral propaganda. The comrades off course denied and a fight started. In the island of Gavdos (south of Crete) the general assembly of the permanent residents of the island decided to abstain from the regional elections in order to protest against the terms of the contest for the boat line that connects Gavdos and Crete.

In the city of Patras, comrades attacked members of the neo-Nazi party when they saw them moving around the central streets trying to perform their propaganda of hatred. The neo-Nazi scums found a shelter in the police department and escaped towards unknown destination by a police car. No surprise of course for the collaboration between cops and fascists.

We should mention that the electoral abstention throughout Greece was more than 40%, while in Athens was 57% and more than 60% and 70% in many municipalities and regions.
