On Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st of October a two-days meeting of the “Autonomous meeting of struggle” against the devastation and exploitation of nature and society, took place in Athens against the diversion dam of the river Acheloos and the dogma of “green development” with the presence of a lot of comrades from all around Greece.
The first day of the meeting, AMS (autonomous meeting of struggle) informed the participants about the actions taken against the diversion dams at the cities of Larisa, Agrinio, Ioannina, Trikala, Patra, Athens, Lesvos and elsewhere. An assembly followed that examined the next steps of the movement, far away from institutions (on local and national level), judging that something like this would damage the tentative and would lead to its disablement.
On the second day, there was an information by comrades about the particular actions taken in various places of Greece (Parnitha, Amvrakikos, Astakos,Ymittos, the self managed Farm at Kamatero, Naxos and other places) and an assembly against the dogma of “green development” as this is the basic theoretical tool for the further exploitation of nature by the state and the capital.

If we look on the map it is obvious that the companies which destroy the rivers are stronger then us. They are taking the rivers one by one and soon there will be no one left. The most fascinating sight on the face of the earth, a natural river flowing undisturbed, will become a memory. Maybe that’s because we are not organized. Maybe a global organization, with the main goal to stop the dams and river diversions, should be established. And it should have branches in each country and when a danger appears in one country huge manifestations should begin, whith participants from as many countries as possible. I do not see any other peacefull mean to stop those monsters!
