[Czech Republic] `Kronika odporu’ – Chronicle of Resistance

`Kronika odporu’ – Chronicle of Resistance

received 01.10.2018

For a long time, we hesitated how we would take the word. First of all, we have led discussions that have allowed us to understand what we have. Then we set up this site kronika.noblogs.org about global anarchist practice. That’s what we missed here, and that makes sense to us.

There are many important topics and we do not have the capacity to do it with everyone. We will try to bring at least some information about attacks, campaigns, projects, communiqués … about living anarchist practices.

In the way, there are state pawns and their fake critics, such as „anarchists“ from academia, leftists, journalists, pacifists and other reformists. We will go against their way. We will be of explaining our attitudes here. No, we do not believe we will change the strength of the arguments of their attitudes. But we want to bring
food for the brains to our comrades.

There will be those who would like us to be locked in prison or tell us the cops to disrupt our activity. We do not want to make it easier for them, so we will take care of strengthening the security culture. We do not want to give the cops unnecessary opportunities to blows. But we rejoice in each blows given to them and to other watchmen of the capitalist shit. We will bring information about them.

The Chronicle of Resistance (Kronika odporu in Czech language) archives reports of anarchist practice, presents analyzes and suggestions for action. We start during the Solidarity Week with anarchist prisoners and join the rebels who have been striking in US prisons since August 21.

We walk the path of resistance.

Hi comrades and friends!
These flyers predict two DIY festivals that will take place next year on the European continent. In July the AGRO-CRUST #9 in Catalonia and in August the MORE NOISE FOR LIFE #13 in Czech Republic. Although there are differences in the concept and the organization of both the spirit of the DIY Kontrakulture is the same. We are and are by the same brother/sisterhood that unites us in our antisystem principles. We seek the active involvement and participation of people  who’re aware and respectful of the conditions of both events. We encourage everyone to launch proposals and to make efforts to support the revolutionary cause that
means to organize and working an event of this kind without any profit encouragement for the benefit of political causes (prisoners, animals).
For a radical social change, long live the anarchy!

How long will last the exploitation of prisoners by the police and courts?

If there’s somebody forced to work for somebody else under the threat of violence, it’s something that we usually call enslavement or exploitation. However, if Czech police and courts use this practice, they call it differently: preparation of the convicted for their jobs and helping the state. There’s no point in arguing about appropriate words, where it’s obvious that the state institutions are committing organized crime on the prisoners. The point is to make these crimes stop.

To make clear what crimes I’m talking about, I’ll first give the word to the officials of Všehrdy prison. On the prison website they write:

With the end of the year approaching, we would like to inform our fellow citizens about the fact, that the prisoners from Všehrdy prison have participated in recovery of the property of different state and municipal institutions in our region during the whole year completely free of charge, in the form of the so-called extramural working activities. …(…)… They, for example, painted the administrative building of shooting range for the Police of Czech Republic, fixed the terrain around the shooting range, removed the invasive trees, repaired and built new target equipment and pruned trees around the driveway. They facilitated moving of the police school and moving and assembling the furniture for the Police of Teplice. And, like in the last year, they painted the area of the District court in Chomutov and moved the furniture.

They taught us in school that slavery was abolished. However, when we look at the conditions of imprisoned people, we can see that slavery only changed its face. The prisoners from Všehrdy may not be a trading commodity like the slaves in the past. But they are still subjected to violent enslavement. They are forced to work hard without any claims for wage and somebody else profits from their work. They are punished if they refuse to work in that conditions. And they are also held behind the walls in iron chains by their slavers. And their enslavement is also hypocritically advocated by talking about that they offended the morals of Christian civilization by their living, and so it’s right to treat them this way.

Everybody who is not blind must clearly see, that resistance against slave practices must not stop, until all prisons and institutions, which have their interest in preserving them, are abolished.

Czech Republic: Network of Revolutionary Cells (SRB) – ‘Call to Fight: Sabotage the Activities of Those Bastards!’

received on 11/20/17

We see that the repressive campaign on the anarchist movement does not cease. Examples are enough: The operation Fénix case in the Czech Republic, the case of the Warsaw Three, charges of bank robbery in Aachen, courts with rebels against the G20 summit in Hamburg and other cases.

Cops, judges, prosecutors, mass-media. They are haunted, imprisoned, robbed, manipulated. This is a challenge to all Revolutionary cells and other groups and individuals. Sabotage the activities of those bastards. Turn them into terrain, technology and structures. Organize resistance. Support the fugitives and their loved ones.

What destroys us will stop by fighting.

The goal is clear = Freedom, justice, anarcho-communism.

[Czech Republic] Text by persecuted anarchist comrade of Anti-Fenix, Lukáš Borl

Received the 13th of November 2017

All power to the imagination?

When extensive strikes and workers’ and students’ riots took place in France at 1968, one of the slogans back then was “All power to the imagination”. Czech police and courts now have their own interpetation. They assert their authority through fostering their own imagination.

When police wanted the arrest warrant on me, their claimed reasons for that were speculative statements and bunch of random bullshit. Obviously, it was enough for getting the warrant. It is even scary, how powerful their imagination can be.

It was written in certain documents: „Lukáš B. doesn’t have any permanent residence in Czech republic. Based on current investigation it was found out, that in time of October 2015 till December 2015 he was moving on the territory of Slovakian republic in Žilina town surroundings. Then, at April/May he was moving in Slovenia in Ljubljana city surroundings.

From that place he moved most probably to Holland, accompanied by (person’s name). Then, it was found out, that at the beginning of summer (June 2016) Lukáš Borl took part in secret meeting of militant animal right defenders Animal liberation front (ALF), which took place at France, in Marseille sity surroundings, under name RAT ATTACK. From the uncovered communication it is clear, that že Lukáš B. plans to travel alongside the coast of Italy, France to the border of Belgium and Netherlands, where he is supposed to have a job – photographing for magazine about migration. Special sings of searched person: brown hair, beard, 8-10 dreadlocks on the head, 15-20 cm long.“

What kind of investigation could lead to writing such a nonsense? In all this construction there is only one true statement – at that time I truly didn’t have a permanent residence in Czech republic. What kind of communication police have “uncovered”, if they deduce absolutely false statements? Apparently, all the investigation and “uncovered” communication took place only in police officers’ heads. Just casual excogitation, as we can call it. Of course, police will think of a better name for what they do, simply because to admit that their authority leans on excogitation and investigation inability, is not tactical at all.

Notes of Contra Info:
On the 28th of April 2015 he was one of the many anarchists who were arrested in the police Operation Fenix. He was released after two days of arrest but other three anarchists stayed in custody since that (after a year there is still one commrade waiting for the court in custody prison).

In the next months Lukáš was under surveillance of the secret police. Under pressure of worries he could also end up in prison for his anarchistic attitude and activities, he decided to go underground. Now the place of his stay is unknown. But he still publishes texts in which he underlines his will to stay part of the anarchistic movement and its activities.

September 4th, 2016, Lukáš Borl was arrested by the police in Most and then taken to the remand prison in Litoměřice. They accuse Lukáš for the foundation, supporting and promoting a movement aimed at suppressing human rights and freedoms.

The comrade was released on bail on 13. 4. 2017. That means that he will wait for the court outside of the prison walls.

Czech prisons: Solidarity message to US prison rebels from anarchist Lukáš Borl (Sept. 10th)

Anarchist prisoner Lukáš Borl, currently held in a remand prison in the Czech Republic, has expressed his solidarity with all oppressed and exploited people around the world regardless their origin, sexual orientation or gender. From this perspective, he decided to send a few words of solidarity to every striking person in prisons across the US.

On September 10th 2016, the comrade wrote:

“I wish for you and for myself also that the strike will grow and resist the repression. I wish for you and for myself also to be able to connect it with other important struggles in prisons and outside of them. I wish for you and for myself also that the strike is not misled to fall into the mud of social-democratic politics and the social peace with the exploiters. Because the way to freedom is not through reforming exploitation but only through abolishing it. I wish for you and for myself also that the strike will go further than reformist demands for changing the prison regime and for better working conditions. All the prisons of the world, and all the paid and unpaid work in those prisons and outside them, are all part of the dictatorship of capital. Let’s struggle to abolish it, not to reform these prisons and forms of exploitation. Let’s not ask for anything. Let’s take what belongs to us. Our lives and human dignity. Prisons, states, and capitalism—all must fall.”

Czech Republic: A statement of anarchist Lukáš Borl captured and imprisoned

barbwireStatement to my arrest

On Sunday, September 4th, 2016, I was arrested by the police in Most and then taken to the remand prison in Litomerice. Unfortunately it happened what I did not want to, but knew all along that this may occur at any time. Fortunately, I have mentally prepared myself for such situation so it allows me to deal calmly with this kind of unpleasant reality, which I’m and apparently people close to me are exposed to now.

I was captured by those who defend the rule of capital over our lives. Nevertheless, that doesn’t change anything on my will to continue along the path that I have chosen. I will continue to destroy and create. To fight and love. I remain an anarchist with everything that belongs to it. I decided for now to write a few paragraphs about my imprisonment. Surely I will soon express my opinion about other issues that I consider important.

Before the arrest

It’s no secret that at a certain moment I decided to “disappear”, in worry that the police was planning my arrest. I have expressed my reasons in the text “Disappearance of supervision of state power”, which is published various sites of the anarchist movement. The choice I made, allowed me to live hidden and quite happily for months. I freely moved and ate a good food. Whole world became home for me, and I was able to find havens for cultural and social existence in it. Because of emotional and material support I had enough energy to keep fighting for emancipation. I knew about the risks associated with it, but I have never thought about to finish with that and I do not think of it even now. To break free from dictatorship of the state and capitalism is an enough attractive aim, that it is impossible to turn away my attention from it. Even the fact that the power is threatening me with finger, baton or prison… Being an anarchist means to me to understand such threats as an inevitable consequence of my expressed desire for freedom. It is connected with daily rebel life. Fact that I can not avoided, but I can defy it. What I do and I will keep doing.

The circumstances of my arrest

Police arrested me in Most, a small city where I was born and lived for a long time. I have part of my family and many friends there. In Most with some people we run a community center “Ateneo” and organized a long series of events associated with the anarchist movement. In short, in this city I’m quite known person, both to the population and the police and bureaucrats.

For some people it will be a manifestation of “stupidity” that I had decided to come into the city, where in the same time I was the subject of a European arrest warrant. Even if my closest people would think so, I will not blame them. Because they look at the matter from a different position than I do. So I do understand that some people don’t find a comprehension for the thoughts and actions of a person who is in the underground for longer time. The life of person on the run is connected with the separation from the people who he/she loves and whom previously had been in close and frequent contact with. It’s one of the hardest thing, that a person in such a situation has to deal with. Fundraising, food, shelter or providing security in contrast, are relatively easy tasks. There are two ways how to deal with such separation. Either accept it passively, which also means expose yourself to the suffering and unending frustration. Or try to overcome the separation with occasional contacts, which of course greatly increases the risk of getting caught by the police. I “instinctively” chose the second option. I knew what I was risking and what I could lose. But, I also knew, that in isolation I can lose something, what is very important to me – contacts with people I care about and who care about me. That’s why I decided to come to Most, knowing the risks.

Everything could go smoothly and soon I would move to a safer place, it was not a difficult task, and I had carefully prepared for it. But as everyone surely knows, into our lives, sometimes enter unexpected events, which can not be predicted, nor reversed. In such cases does not help the preparation nor the will or abilities. We are dragged by events without being able to prevent them or change them. That’s exactly what happened in my case. As a result, I not only failed to make contact, but also I was arrested. I will not explain now, why and how it happened. Perhaps I will do so later.

Police resolution

Shortly after the arrest, was presented to me a resolution to initiate criminal prosecution. During the whole process, I decided to exercise the right to remain silent. The case is investigated by the police department for Combating Organized Crime (ÚOOZ). They accuse me for the foundation, supporting and promoting a movement aimed at suppressing human rights and freedoms. According ÚOOZ I founded a Network of revolutionary cells (SRB), participated in some SRB’s events and I wrote some SRB’s communiqués and published  them on the “Asociace Alerta” website. Further they claim that I have committed violation of possession, damaging property of another, 4 times. Twice during an arson attack on a police car. Once during an arson attack on a shop door. And once by spraying on the wall of Prague prison Ruzyne. Finally I am also accused by ÚOOZ for blackmailing the owner of steak restaurant “Řízkárna”.

I carefully studied all accusations to find out on what bases ÚOOZ beliefs that I committed those acts. Honestly, it really calmed me down, because those “proofs” are a mixture of speculation and evaluation of the “trails”, which in fact doesn’t prove my involvement in those acts.

Defense

As is known, I have  no sympathies for judicial system. I consider it as part of the repressive instruments of capitalism, of which I am an opponent. Nevertheless, I decided to try to defend myself in court regarding the weak “evidences” that the ÚOOZ presents against me. I realize that this election means fight on the enemy’s territory with limited resources. That’s the reason why I don’t have exaggerated expectations or illusions that the court would be an independent institution that could serve to emancipation struggle.

I will defend myself in court, but I still stand behind that the anarchist struggle must be based primarily on the subversive logic of direct action rather than relying on institutional instruments of  the state and indirect (representatives mediated) forms of action. From what I have been saying and doing since years, it’s clear what kind of struggle I prefer. I will  keep acting according to that and I want the same from the people who is in solidarity with me.

Still armed and dangerous

During my hiding period, the police and the media denominated me as dangerous and armed. I confirmed it in a text -Lukáš Borl v hledáčku policie. (Lukas Borl in viewfinder of the police.) After the arrest, the police take away from me my defensive pepper spray, knuckleduster, a gas pistol with two magazines and 23 rounds (ed. These weapons are in the Czech Republic legally available without a gun license). Now they keep me in jail. I stand by the fact that I’m still armed and dangerous. Dangerous (to capitalism), because, even behind the bars I refuse to adapt to the conditions of exploitation and encourages the others to rebel against them. I’m still armed because of my willingness to be solidary. Up to this moment they weren’t able to take it away from me and recorded it as a matter of importance for criminal proceedings. Solidarity and rebelliousness are weapons that I still have on me and I’m ready to use it. I have done that already, I do that now and I will keep doing it.

Ground of fighting

As an anarchist, I was always aware of the possibility to be arrest. Every regime after all, suppress its opposition in such a manner. Now I am in pre-trial detention jail, but do not consider it as the end of the anarchist path. Jail is just one of many phases of that revolutionary may (but need not) go through. It’s not the end. Only a change of circumstances and ground where I will now struggle against the perpetrators of oppression. I am pleased that It can keep fighting together with other anarchists. With those, who understand that collective struggle is the only way out of capitalist mud.

Solidarity actions

Anyone who feels the need to support me can choose own way and timing according to own considerations. I will not tell anyone what to do and how. But I explicitly don’t want to see anyone, without my consent, to disclaim direct actions done in my support. If I don’t agree with any action, I will express that by myself, if I consider it important.

An advice for those who doubt about what action would be welcome: get information about my past, to understand what ideological positions I stand for. If this is understandable for you. Then it will make you lose any doubts about what action I would welcome and which not. No time to lose.

No social peace with those who oppress and exploit us. The struggle continues!

Anarchist greetings from prison!

[Greece] ABC Solidarity Cell: Strength to the anarchist hunger striker Martin Ignačák

Update by AntiFénix: Martin has suspended his hunger strike.

Embassy of the Czech Republic in Athens spray-painted: “Freedom to Martin Ignačák – Anarchist Black Cross”

In April 2015, the Czech State launched a repressive campaign under the name “Operation Fénix” targeting the anarchist movement that’s active on its territory.

Raids on fighters’ homes, arrests, personal belongings confiscated, relatives and friends of the arrestees harassed, and accusatory dossiers cooked up in police offices. Eleven fighters were arrested as a result of this operation, of whom four were sent to remand prisons of the Czech Republic, while the rest were given restrictive bail conditions. All this has been portrayed in the media as a coordinated effort towards dismantling “terrorist networks”, such as the Network of revolutionary cells (SRB) who’ve claimed responsibility for dozens of incendiary attacks against statist and capitalist targets. Also one of the comrades is charged with participating in another attack that, according to the media, was carried out with Molotov cocktails against the house of the Minister of National Defence.

Martin Ignačák, who is accused of plotting attack on a train transporting military equipment, was in fact trapped by government agents who had infiltrated anarchist circles and indicated the target to Martin along with plans about how to carry out such an attack.

The specific repressive tactic is a strategic doctrine in US counterterrorism policies, which are well known to be basic guidelines on the formation of repressive policies on a global level.

Secret services take on the role of thought police, penetrate in subversive movements, single out comrades who support practices of direct action and suggest targets and plans for attacks, only to capture them later, without any action having taken place at all. In the US, there are many such examples of prosecution and imprisonment of fighters from the wider radical movement (from anarchists to activists of ALF and ELF).

Operation Fénix unleashed by the Czech State is its first organised attempt to apply the specific repressive doctrine in order to paralyse a combative anarchist current that has been developed in the Czech Republic in recent years.

Martin has already spent nearly 14 months in prison awaiting trial; nevertheless, the vindictiveness of the state apparatus against the comrade continues, with constant harassment of his relatives, his motions for replacement of pretrial detention with bail conditions denied, and debilitating conditions of imprisonment.

To resist, Martin has undertaken hunger strike since June 9th 2016, using his body as a barricade against the exemption status he’s subjected to.

From our side we stand next to Martin, overcoming the artificial polarity between innocence and guilt, and demand that his requests be met.

International solidarity is an integral part of our processes, as it breaks down the borders that separate us and sends out messages of rebellion and defiance from every location where these are manifested, in every corner of the world, thus diffusing the cracks opened in the authoritarian edifice.

On Friday June 24th 2016, Anarchist Black Cross carried out a solidarity action outside the embassy of the Czech Republic in Palaio Psychiko [one of the wealthiest northern suburbs of Athens]. We hung a banner, spray-painted slogans at the embassy’s entrance, and threw flyers to make evident that we know who will be accountable if our comrade’s health condition deteriorates.

The same day, on Lesvos Island, a banner was hung in the city of Mytilini as a minimum display of solidarity with comrade Martin Ignačák.

PS. In Athens, after leaving the Czech embassy in Palaio Psychiko, cops of DIAS motorcycle police force followed a bus which individuals from the action were aboard. They stopped and stormed the bus on Kifissias Avenue, forced people out, and took them to GADA police headquarters. After two hours, all were released but one, who was released several hours later.

Solidarity isn’t going to become an inward-looking process; our actions won’t be constrained by repression.

Repression doesn’t hold us back.

Prague: Victory of SRB in fight against Řízkárna restaurant

The fight of the Network of revolutionary cells (SRB) against Prague restaurant Řízkárna lasted over a year. The owner of the restaurant Vladimir Krulec didn’t pay wages to his employees. He finally admitted defeat. After pressure of SRB he paid owed wages to some of the employees who worked there.

SRB organized different sabotages of the restaurant since March 2015. Four times restaurants’ cars were set on fire. Few times the restaurant was disrupted with the Butyric acid. There was also dozens of forced evacuations which caused enclosure for the public. The sabotages were an extensive loss for the business. The threat of more damages finally made Krulec to admit his defeat. He did what SRB wanted him to: to pay those owed wages.

The victory of SRB was a product of enforcement. We defined the goal of the struggle and through the direct actions we made Krulec to accomplish it. There was no space for concession. There was no mediation through bureaucracy or politicians. No negotiation or concessions in order to find a compromise. This we commit to others. We prefer the logic of permanent conflict that makes our enemies to do what we need.

There were other direct actions before SRB started its actions. Protests, happenings, pickets or occupations of the restaurant. These were organized by other groups and under specific circumstances it could’ve been successful. But it didn’t lead to a success and that was the reason why SRB started their actions. It was designed to intensify the pressure on Krulec. The autonomous actions and used methods were enforced by circumstances but are not the universal model for all situations.

Organizing pickets can be sufficient for some other struggles. In that case there is no need to set cars on fire. But where the moderate protests are not working the sabotages can be a good way how to win such fights. This one is a good example. Let it inspire ourselves and let’s take advantage from the gained experience. Let’s analyze it and utilize it for the future fights.

We express our support to the struggle against the oppressive apparatus on all fronts, from trade unions to direct actions.

We hope this symbolic act of setting fire to a bank sparks a wave of radicalism across the country.

Hamburg: Anti-Authoritarian days against prison society – 8th-11th October

breite-sol-editNo Prison – No State!
Anti-Authoritarian days against prison society
October 8th-11th 2015 in Hamburg

Whilst we are working, consuming, functioning… they build the cage we`re living in!

Life under democratic regime is dominated by a continuous process of adaption to the problems and developments of the system. The state permanently reflects and improves itself, trying to keep up a civic discourse through offering so-called alternatives and reforms. This is supposed to destroy the basis for unrest and resistance and to many it legitimates strong repressive answers to such rebellious behavior.

This phenomenon can be found in almost every aspect of modern life. The illusion of participation if one of their strongest weapons, and together with the ongoing expansion of so called rights, democracy is developing towards a system, in which the ruled are actively participating in their own oppression.

But their maintaining of this so called social peace doesn’t happen without any disruption and errors. In many places, the social inequality reaches a point, at which it doesn’t maintain, but starts to threaten the stability of power. In these places, more and more people start to leave their prescribed frame and rebel.

Furthermore, Europe is facing a constant stampede for its borders (including its financial and social systems) by people from those countries, in which the inequality has already reached the peak of functionality. These unwanted of the democracy are creating dynamics to which the state has to react, if he doesn’t want to see his existence under threat.

But these developments do not come out of nowhere – they have been expected by those in power, these dynamics are known through studies and analysis for a long time. Counter-programs and processes are running and the states, including their structures and apparatuses of control, are in state of restructuring again. Everything has to become faster, more effective, cheaper. So does the apparatus of repression, which is supposed to defend the current order, defend the state and attack rebels, unwanted, un-needed and the states enemies.  Besides the expanding networking and armament of the apparatuses of repression, there is a need for social assimilation as well, so as to avoid the development towards a field of conflict and a target of the hatred of the oppressed. A society, that finds the ever expanding repression legitimate and actively takes part in its development won’t rise up.

This ever increasing praxis of often violent appeasement is not unknown – especially to those, who have been incarcerated in prisons during the 1980s and 90s, when there where riots, insurrections and hunger-strikes going on allover the European continent, creating cracks in the destroying force of prisons daily grind, it must be pretty familiar. The methods which were used to crush these tensions – on one hand, repression and violence and on the other hand, intensified improvement of the illusion of actively participating and having influence on ones own oppression – can nowadays be found on both sides of the walls.

The prison, as the states most frightening weapon of repression against those who are either not willing or capable to comply with its rules, is actually everywhere, it became much more then just the a grey wall which we`re supposed to fear, it became a concrete reality in every-ones life – the prison is just the states maximized version of the same confinement we have to get used to since we were born.

If we want subversion, the turnover of the system and the end of all oppression and authority, for the realization of a life in freedom, we have to rebel!

If we want a social revolt, that doesn’t just pave the way for another authoritarian reality, we have to recognize social conflicts, we have analyze them and create them ourselves. Through permanent intervention, conflict and reflection of the existent, we can provoke cracks in the normality of the system. Our goal should be to destroy this prison society, starting from what could grow in the spaces, permanent attack could open.

In most parts of Europe, subversion seems to be asleep. Let`s wake it up, armed with our ideas and passions for freedom and put an end to the misery.

If prisons, camps or borders, the states institutions, banks, the economy, the cops or the military – lets face the system and its defendants – just as we have to destroy all the authoritarian bullshit in our heads, the rules and norms created by the existent, for getting closer to our freedom.

We want to come together on this weekend to discuss ideas and struggles for social revolts against the prison society and its world.

We want to talk about whats up and what is to come, get to know each other for finding out, if we share perspectives and find ways of struggling together.

Czech Republic: The situation of our comrades in prison – greyness, solitude and hunger

Non-vegan diet, isolation, boredom, hour and a half of daylight. Meeting people through the bars and hardened glass. These are just some of the conditions our comrades experience while imprisoned. In this article we would like to describe the everyday reality of imprisoned anarchists and outline ways to support them. We call for support of all three defendants and, especially Martin, to whom the few next weeks may be critical. We also call for exerting pressure on the Pankrác prison to respect Martin’s vegan diet and towards improving prison conditions in general. More about the case from AntiFenix.czechOperation Fenix, police infiltration and possibly fabricated case

Recently in April 2015, Police of the Czech Republic commenced an operation against the anarchist, anti-authoritarian and animal liberation movement. This operation is known and called Operation Fenix (Phoenix). During the initial stage many individuals have been questioned and interrogated, some arrested and several places raided. Police confiscated servers, computers, flash drives, cameras, mobile phones and other digital devices or data carriers. So far we do not know to what extend the operation goes and how many people are being monitored and what the intentions of the police are. On a number of occasions the police fabricated or purposely concealed important facts in order to obtain permission to search different properties and arrest people.

The closest media attention has so far focused on the affair of ”far left terrorism.” From the original 11 detainees, three individuals remain in custody (Ales, Petr and Martin – “Fenix 3″) where they wait for trial. Petr and Martin are accused of “conspiracy to plan a terrorist attack” and Ales with the offense for illegal arms possession.

Today we know that the entire “action” to attack the train, which the police claimed to prevent by arresting Petr, Martin and two other people (currently investigated without detention), was scheduled and co-planned by (at least) two undercover operatives. Specifically trained undercover police officers infiltrated a group of people and gained their trust to obtain information. After a while, when surveillance of their new “friends” was established, they began to talk more about the necessity of actions more militant in nature and they actively participated in the preparation of such a plan.
Martin’s lawyer mentioned in an interview:

“My defendant considers the whole case as the result of police provocation and he had no intention whatsoever to plan or carry out a terrorist attack. As he stated, if he would not have met the undercover police agents he would most likely never have gotten into the current troubles.”

It was the police themselves who invented the whole event. Without their initiative, the whole affair would not even exist. The aim of the police was most likely to discredit, intimidate and divide the entire anarchist movement and to collect as much information about the groups, activities and individuals as possible. More about police infiltration here.

Fenix 3, prison conditions, loneliness and hunger

So far, no court hearings have been held yet, therefore the accused should be regarded as innocent, however the reality is that not only in the media (from whom we can not expect more than a hunger for sensation), but mainly in prisons the presumption of innocence is somehow forgotten, and defendants are treated as if they were already sentenced.

All three were assigned to various prisons around Czech Republic. Petr is at Ruzyne prison, Martin at Pankrác prison and Ales was recently transferred to prison in Brno. Petr at least had the opportunity to meet with other prisoners, even if only for a few small moments but Ales and Martin were placed in solitary confinement without the slightest possibility of social contact. Petr and Martin are both allowed a visit once every two weeks for 90 minutes limited to 4 people. They are allowed to walk for 90 minutes alone in a restricted area of the prison.

Martin was transferred to Pankrác Prison in Prague in early June and the already unenviable conditions have been aggravated. He was separated from the other prisoners and placed in a solitary confinement. All of his personal belongings were taken from him and no money has been delivered to him yet. Due to this practice it is not possible to deliver a radio that must undergo input check, which is covered from Martin’s money. He met people just over the bars and plexiglass always being handcuffed and he is allowed to walk outside for 90 minutes a day.

The situation of Martin’s diet is outrageous. According to the statutes of Pankrác prison he has the right to eat a vegan diet, but in reality he does not even get a vegetarian diet. Ironically Martin was offered an “alternative” Muslim diet which means an animal product based diet with the absence of pork, so obviously not vegan. Martin is not getting enough food! In addition, Ales and Petr are vegetarians and are allowed to receive a maximum of 5 kg parcels once in three months only and content is tightly regulated. The fact is that basic food intake should be provided by the prison rather than by people from the outside!

We call for support of all three defendants, especially Martin at the moment, who is suffering due to prison authorities disrespecting his vegan diet and refusing to accommodate his dietary habits. Czech Republic – Operation Fenix: Anarchists charged with ‘preparation of terrorist acts’

On April 28th 2015, the anti-extremist police unit commanded Operation Fenix across the Czech Republic, in an attempt to frighten the anarchist and antiauthoritarian scene, and collect information in a fishing expedition. The police have arrested or interrogated over thirty people so far, with the intention of investigating activities which they later labeled as ‘terrorist’. Individuals were harassed by undercover cops, others taken from one city to another for immediate interrogations, private flats and social centres were raided, and servers confiscated.

According to updates until May 26th, three individuals remain in police custody for further investigations, and a number of individuals have been interrogated for second time.

On Saturday, June 6th, comrades gathered outside Prague’s remand prisons where Operation Fenix prisoners are currently being held.

Below is an open letter from Petr S., one of the imprisoned since Op. Fenix was launched:

“Dear friends,
thank you for all your support and solidarity. It means a lot to me, especially in this situation. I have always regarded my life as a mere fraction of all life on Earth. That has not changed. Even when I was not in custody, the thought of all those whose freedom has been taken, not only behind bars, has made me feel not free myself. My journey in life has always been a journey towards equality and a truly free society for all. Your kind words assure me that I will never be alone on this journey.
With sincere gratitude and fraternal greetings,
Petr”
