On July 5th, 2012 the First Three-Member Misdemeanor Court of Piraeus decided to discontinue the prison sentence of Savvas Xiros only for five months, accepting this time his umpteenth motion for a stay of execution of his sentence so as to be hospitalized at the AHEPA hospital of Thessaloniki. According to the ruling, Savvas will be placed under constant police guard during that whole period. Therefore, the imprisoned member of the R.O. 17 November—who suffers extremely serious problems in his eyes, ears and legs—is expected to step out of the so-called hospital of Koridallos prisons (Athens), even for a 5-month period, in order to be treated in Thessaloniki’s state hospital. Note that Savvas has undergone numerous surgeries after a bomb exploded in his own hands in 2002. In the appeal trial, which ended in 2007, he received 5 life sentences and 25 years in prison, plus monetary fine of 22,900 euros.
