Athens: Islamophobia on the rise in the streets of Exarchia

On July 18th, 2013 fascist islamophobists along with autonomous nationalists were gathered once again in Neapoli, Exarchia, carrying Greek national flags under the cloak of the so-called “Action of independent citizens” to protest the authorized construction of a mosque in Votanikos neighbourhood of Athens. Their “Christian” mottos simply outline their hate speech towards “illegal migrants”. Over the last days, fascists are nearing the Exarchia zone with planned rallies in morning hours. Nazi scum have repeatedly assembled outside the offices of the state-run Special Service for Public Buildings Works (EYDEK), which is located on the corner of Vatatzi with Zoodochou Pigis streets in downtown Athens, where auctions and contests for the mosque’s construction are being conducted.
