Athens: About the cancellation of the release decisions of S.Nikitopoulos, V.Stathopoulos and Ch.Kortesis

With a decision on May 20th, the Supreme Court [Areios Pagos] cancelled the decision of release of the three anarchists who are accused for participation in the ‘Revolutionary Struggle.’

Sarantos Nikitopoulos, Christoforos Kortesis and Vaggelis Stathopoulos, who have repeatedly denied any charges against them, were released under bail conditions with a judgment of Appellate Judges Council one and a half month ago. With an unprecedented and hidden move, the Supreme Court methodizes the re-imprisonment of the three comrades, proving once more the close collaboration of the police and the juridical authorities, as well as the vengeful fury of the regime towards our comrades.

From the first moment of their arrests, they have declared their belief that their prosecutions are based on their subversive action, their reliable presence for years in the anarchist movement, and the penalization of friendly/comradely relations.

The outrageous news is answered with counter-information actions in solidarity to the three anarchists. On May 25th, comrades occupied the offices of the Athens Bar Association in solidarity to Kortesis, Stathopoulos, Nikitopoulos against whom the State these days tries new repressive methods.

'DOWN YOUR LIMBS FROM THE COMRADES V.STATHOPOULOS, CH.KORTESIS, S.NIKITOPOULOS'

Also today, May 26th, their defense lawyers gave a press conference regarding this unprecedented move by the Greek Justice. The six lawyers stated among others: ‘The real fact of the expiry of twelve months of the defendants’ pre-trial detention in connection with the constitutional guarantee and the relevant jurisprudence of the Supreme Court, prevent any re-enforcement of pre-trial detention.’

S.Nikitopoulos, V.Stathopoulos and Ch.Kortesis who deny all accusations against them, are still outside and they shall stay with us.

WE WILL NOT LEAVE ANY COMRADE ALONE
SOLIDARITY IS OUR WEAPON
