Darmstadt, Germany: Solidarity demo for anarchists and squatters in Greece

For many people in Greece the living conditions are dramatic, with high unemployment rate, massive austerity measures, cuts in pensions, forced evictions, along with the privatization of important infrastructure. The social and healthcare system has collapsed, while many people can no longer afford to buy food, let alone essential medicines.

Social centres – houses that had been vacant for a long time – have been squatted, often for over twenty years, and have stood as an important point of reference for many people amid the crisis, who were able to help each other with gratuitous bazaars, collective kitchens for all, while several among these spaces were also sleeping shelters. Actions for a free and solidarian world came out of these occupied houses again and again. Not least, these left anti-authoritarian structures have offered a refuge to all those persecuted by the fascist and openly neo-Nazi party Chrissi Avgi (Golden Dawn), which got almost 7% of the vote during the last election, and its followers attack and murder antifascists, political adversaries and (presumed) migrants.

At the same time that the State ignores this problem – or, as often happens with the police, not only allows this haunting but even supports the fascists – it takes action against the anarchist and antifascist movement with the utmost repression.

In December 2012, during the police raid in the University of Economics and Business (ASOEE), the equipment of Athens free radio 98FM was confiscated. The university asylum, which was introduced in the aftermath of the military dictatorship, was abolished already in 2011 as a result of the declared war on social protests. We are even angrier about the eviction of social centres such as Villa Amalias (squatted for 22 years) and Lelas Karagianni 37 (which has been reoccupied)!

So, on Saturday the 9th of February 2013, in the wake of the ‘black February’ about twenty people got together for a spontaneous demonstration in the city of Darmstadt. We reserve the right for ourselves to hold demonstrations wherever and however we want. We do not accept to request for permission in order to express our opinion from this State, which is grossly responsible for the austerity dictates in Greece.

With this demo, we express our solidarity with our comrades in Greece! For a free world without any State, nation, Capital, fascists, and filled with autonomous centres!
