During the 1941–44 Nazi occupation in Greece, mavragorites or black marketeers—fascists’ minions, snitches and kowtowers—were taking advantage of the people amid an artificial crisis of food shortage, and they sold cooking oil, rice, etc. in small quantities to whomever was wretched from hunger, taking away everything that the latter had, a home or land, even their children to use as slaves. As soon as the Occupation and the Civil War ended, black marketeers became immensely rich eminent citizens, while those who found themselves in their need either died of hunger or lived in misery and poverty.
Similarly, today, mavragorites once again make their appearance with pawn shops called ‘I Buy Gold’, and their big boss is none other than Bobolas, well-known among the pigs of Power; these thugs can smell that many people are in want of a cash advance, due to the alleged economic crisis, and thus buy their need and dignity.
Four black-marketeering stores have cropped up in Igoumenitsa, controlled by lackeys, contemporary profiteers, ruffians from Igoumenitsa and Corfu.
On October 3rd, 2012, at 3am, we attacked one of these shops, located on Kyprou street opposite Igoumenitsa’s central square, and smashed its front windows.
Any owners, who threaten that their henchmen will take the situation in hand, should know they do not intimidate us.
We neither give a damn about the employees in such stores—who whine that they just do their job for 600 euros—because they chose to be into the adversary camp. Besides, work is a disgrace.
We wink the eye at comrades who first winked at us.
