Political persecutions in the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki

On Friday, 18 February 2011, two of the students of the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki received summons from the Magistrates’ Court of Thessaloniki, “to give explanations about the occupation.” It’s not clarified in which occupation these summons refer to. It should be noted here that the students’ association has made four occupations from May 2010 and several other mobilizations with economic, administrative and educational claims.

It’s not known yet if the calling process is completed, as we still don’t have more information on the matter.

These calls are made after actions of a current member (or members) of the board of directors of the conservatory (whose president, Charalambos Lefakis, already admitted that he gave evidence to the prosecutor) in the overall targeting of syndical action of the students’ association.

While the State tries to strengthen the suppression of the struggling parts of society, their criminalization is attempted in the common consciousness through judicial and legal processes.

The State continues arrests and persecutions, targeting – isolated and exemplary – individuals for collective actions. When the minions of State power sue social fighters, when bosses suck money from our pockets, when syndicalism is criminalized, when the geometric progression is found in the number of police motorbikes but not in social freedoms, when the State’s justice acts against the fair rights of people in struggle, when nationalist fanfares try to step on vestiges of migrants’ lives, then the obvious determines our attitude.
